LRE Reviews CDPHE's Proposed New "Ground Water Under Direct Influence" (GWUDI) Policy
LRE has been working with clients to monitor and plan for a pending Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) policy change that could impact numerous public water providers in Colorado with shallow wells.
As this information sheet details, this policy could lead to expensive new treatment requirements for wells that are currently only chlorinated. While the policy is not finalized, CPDHE has provided draft information on how they will determine the treatment requirements at a given well and what the data collection (or ground water modeling) requirements are for water providers. - Dave Colvin is helping to put on "A Day Without Water" video contest. What is this? Water is connected to everything in our lives. Communicating about water is fun and can be expressed in many ways. This contest gives you a platform to show the world what a day without water looks like to you… and perhaps offer positive or alternative solutions to water scarcity issues. If you have questions, feel free to email Dave at dave.colvin@LREwater.com. Coloradans are invited to participate in the contest for a chance to win awesome prizes, courtesy of the Arkansas River and Rio Grande basins. Whether you're from a classroom, student group, community program, professional association, or just a concerned citizen, you can show what "A Day Without Water" means to you.
- Using the Water 2012 Book Club theme of adventure, fun, and challenge of Colorado's most precious resource, water, Mary Presecan is coordinating a book club for LRE staff where we have the opportunity to read all the books on the list.
- Read the Water 2012 blog where Matt Brown is contributing human interest articles to increase awareness about the importance of Colorado's water resources and help motivate Coloradans to become proactive participants in Colorado's water future.
Colorado Water Trust has New Board Member from LRE
Erin Wilson has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Colorado Water Trust for a three-year term. The Trust promotes voluntary efforts to protect and restore the State's streamflows and work within existing administration and policies based on willing seller (or donor) and willing buyer (the Trust). They focus on three categories;
- water rights acquisitions,
- water conservation through physical and structural solutions, and
- technical support and education.
Erin brings her expertise and passion for considering water issues from a basin-wide perspective to the Board.
Community Service
Several LRE employees participated in the
19th Annual Fall South Platte RiverSweep, where hundreds of volunteers helped in varied efforts to maximize the environmental and recreational value of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. They removed trash and debris along the banks and trails of the South Platte, painted, removed graffiti, and more. See the full story at www.greenwayfoundation.org.
